What does "living in Christ" (Colossians 2:6) involve? See Colossians 1:10-12.

Colossians 2:6 "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,"

"Living in Christ" is also called "walking in Christ" as you can see from this other Bible translation of this verse.

Colossians 2:6

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:”

King James Version (KJV)

Based on Colossians 2:6, “walking in Christ” means living out the reality that you have received Jesus Christ as Lord, and this walk is described in Colossians 1:10-12 as a lifestyle of bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with God’s power for endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father. The song “O To Be Like Jesus” (based on Colossians 2:6-7) reflects and applies these truths, showing that walking in Christ involves being firmly rooted in Him, strengthened in faith, growing in truth, overflowing with thanks, enduring to the end, never going astray, and continually following and obeying Jesus as a heartfelt aspiration rather than a mere duty.

Here are the lyrics:

Since we have received

Jesus Christ as Lord

We must walk in Him

We must be conformed

We are firmly rooted

Strengthened in our faith

Growing in the truth we

Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus

To always walk in Him

O to be like Jesus

Enduring to the end

Since we have received

Jesus Christ as Lord

We will walk in Him

We will be conformed

We are firmly rooted

Strengthened in our faith

Growing in the truth we

Overflow with thanks!

O to be like Jesus

To always walk in Him

O to be like Jesus

Enduring to the end

O to be like Jesus

To never go astray

O to be like Jesus

To follow and obey

–"O To Be Like Jesus (2:6-7)" by Our Pilgrim Songs (from the album Colossians: Walk in Christ, based on Colossians 2:6-7).

Question: How can we guard against being deceived by "persuasive arguments" today?

See Answer: http://ebible.com/answers/54189?ori=664697

Paul warns in Colossians 2:4 that we can be deceived not by obvious falsehoods, but by "plausible" or "persuasive arguments." Such arguments often have an "appearance of wisdom" (Col 2:23a). They may be logical, strict, or spiritually impressive, but Paul concludes they are ultimately worthless because they "lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence" (Col 2:23b). Therefore, a persuasive argument that produces pride ("Knowledge puffs up," 1 Cor 8:1), anxiety (in contrast to "do not be anxious," Phil 4:6), judgmentalism ("Let no one pass judgment on you," Col 2:16), or enslavement to rules ("Why do you submit to regulations?" Col 2:20–22) is immediately suspect. The truth of Christ, by contrast, produces very different fruit: thankfulness ("abounding in thanksgiving," Col 2:7), freedom ("the truth will set you free," John 8:32; "for freedom Christ has set us free," Gal 5:1), and love for others ("faith working through love," Gal 5:6; "the aim of our charge is love," 1 Tim 1:5). Thus, the best guard against being deluded by persuasive arguments is not more cleverness, but a heart deeply rooted in the gospel. When genuine thankfulness, freedom, and love are present, empty plausibility loses its appeal.

Question: Why did David want Goliath’s "head"? (1 Samuel 17:54)

First, see the big picture from Harold Wilminton's alliterated outline:

B. The action (1 Sam 17:12-15, 1 Sam 17:54)

  1. The care package (1 Sam 17:12-15, 1 Sam 17:19): David's father instructs him to carry food to three of his brothers in Saul's army.

  2. The criticism (1 Sam 17:20-30): When David arrives at the site of the impending battle, he is rebuked by his oldest brother for asking why Goliath is allowed to insult Israel's army.

  3. The concern (1 Sam 17:31-40)
    a. Saul's reservation (1 Sam 17:31-33): David volunteers to fight Goliath, but Saul is afraid that David will be no match for the Philistine giant.
    b. David's reassurance (1 Sam 17:34-37): David tells Saul that as a shepherd he killed lions and bears who threatened his sheep. He promises to do the same with Goliath! Saul agrees to let David fight.
    c. David's refusal (1 Sam 17:38-40): Saul offers David his own royal armor, but David refuses it, choosing to use his sling and stones instead.

  4. The contempt (1 Sam 17:41-47): Goliath taunts the Israelites and curses David by the names of his gods.
    a. Goliath's reviling (1 Sam 17:41-44): "Come over here, and I'll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!"
    b. David's response (1 Sam 17:45-47): "Today the LORD will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head."

  5. The clash (1 Sam 17:48-51): David hurls a stone at Goliath and hits him in the forehead, causing him to fall down. David takes Goliath's sword and cuts off Goliath's head.

  6. The conquest (1 Sam 17:51-54): When the Philistine army sees that Goliath is dead, they flee. The Israelites chase them and destroy them.

What does it mean to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly?

Question: What does it mean to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly?

See Answer: http://ebible.com/answers/47657?ori=664697

Ultimately, Micah 6:8 is not a checklist for earning God's favor, but a beautiful description of the life that flows from receiving it. We can only do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly because Christ first did justice for us, showed us mercy, and humbled Himself to death on a cross. When we trust in Him, His Spirit works these qualities in us, not as a means of salvation, but as the joyful fruit of it.
